KCC LOSES CAPITAL

THE administration of Kampala city is to be streamlined following the passing of the Kampala Capital City Bill, 2009 by Parliament yesterday.

The bill accords Kampala a special status as the capital city of Uganda and puts it directly under the control of the Central Government with an appointed chief executive officer. It has hitherto been managed by Kampala City Council.

However, the Bill that was passed retained the existing boundary of Kampala City and directly elected councillors and the mayor who will be be a ceremonial figure.

The Central Government will be responsible for construction and maintenance of roads in Kampala city if the Bill is assented to by the President. we hope this move will make the city mush cleaner and better run.
