New BANK NOTE introduced in Uganda

The Bank of Uganda has introduced new notes in the Ush50.000, Ush20.000 , Ush10.000 , Ush5.000, Ush1000, Ush2.000

The key security features
aLL the banknote have a water mark that shows the same image of the head of the Crested Crane. The denomination for all the notes is highlighted in the light area near the eye and dark area near the beak.
The Ush1000, 2000 and 5000 banknotes have got a prominent purple pattern that changes to green when the note is tilted away from the person holding it.

The Ush 10.000, 20.000, 50.000 banknotes have got a prominent green pattern that contains a diagonal bright line that moves when tilted from side to side and it is also colour shifting changing from green to blue when tilted.

The Ush1000, 2000, 5000 notes have a windowed thread that changes from red to green when the note is tilted away from the person holding it.

When all the notes are held to the light, the thread is continuous and includes the letters Bank of Uganda (BOU) with the symbol for the blind and the notes show a hidden shiny shine pattern and letters BOU and the denomination.

the currencies is counterfeits proof but already their cases of forgery being reported in the media so be warned.

Bank of Uganda Governor Tumusiime Mutebile said that the change in the currency design is driven by the need to comply with international best practices and taking advantage of the innovations in the banknote industry.

"The move will help in the fight against counterfeiting whilst keeping the notes user friendly," he said. He said the new banknote series will circulate alongside the current banknotes starting on May 17.

"Both series will be legal tender and should continue to be used as cash transactions until the public is informed otherwise," he noted. "Therefore there will be no special exercise by Bank of Uganda Currency centres to exchange the current banknotes for the new banknotes, the public is advised not to rush to banks to exchange the notes," he advised.

Uganda Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development Syda Bbumba said the development comes at a time when the Uganda Shilling and financial system are stable.
